Three ACEWATER Members Awarded Prestigious Alexander vonHumboldt Postdoctoral Fellowships

By Johnson Olalere

We are delighted to announce that three esteemed members of the African Center of Excellence for Water and Environmental Research (ACEWATER) have been awarded the highly prestigious Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) postdoctoral fellowships. The AvH Foundation is renowned for its support of outstanding researchers and scientists, and these fellowships are evidences to the exceptional caliber of the recipients and their solution-driven breaking research.

  1. Dr. M.O Omorogie’s AvH Humboldt Research Fellowship focuses on wastewater chemistry and addresses crucial environmental challenges. His research encompasses innovative approaches, such as using waste plastics activated carbon and solar-active materials to tackle issues related to microplastics and wastewater treatment. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Brigitte Helmreich at the Technical University of Munich, Dr. Omorogie’s work promises to contribute significantly to sustainable wastewater management and environmental protection.
  2. Dr. C.G Olorunnisola’s AvH Georg Forster Research Grant centers on solid-state and surface chemistry, with a particular focus on material synthesis. His research addresses critical global challenges, including water scarcity and wastewater treatment, with a focus on developing innovative photocatalytic membranes. Working alongside Prof. Dr. Andreas Taubert at the University of Potsdam, Dr. Olorunnisola’s investigations are poised to have a significant impact on improving water quality and human health.
  3. Dr. M.O Alfred’s AvH Georg Forster Research Grant focuses on solid-state and surface chemistry, with a particular emphasis on material synthesis. His research addresses pressing environmental challenges, including climate change and air quality, through the development of visible light photocatalysts and waste-to-wealth approaches. Collaborating with Dr. Matthew Mayer at the Helmholtz Center Berlin for Materials and Energy and Prof. Dr. Andreas Taubert at the University of Potsdam, Dr. Alfred’s research promises to drive significant advancements in sustainable solutions for climate mitigation.

The recognition of the trio with the AvH postdoctoral fellowships underscores their outstanding contributions to water and environmental research. The ACEWATER community takes great pride in their accomplishments and looks forward to witnessing the impact of their research on the global scientific community and the betterment of society. Congratulations to the recipients and best wishes for a successful and fruitful research journey!
