Dr. Olukanni Olumide is an Environmental Biotechnologist who obtained his doctoral degree in Biochemistry from the University of Lagos. He has elucidated several biodegradation pathways of industrially important pollutants while isolating organisms capable of bioremediation of wastewater. He was a visiting research scholar to University of Shivaji, Kolhapur India and a recipient of TWAS-DFG collaborative visit to the University of Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany. In 2016, he won the Lecturer of the Year in Redeemer’s University, the chairman of the best performing University Committee in 2016, and Baca Laurel for infrastructural development in 2018. He was part of the team that won the Seeding Labs Equipment Access Grant in 2017 ($300,000 worth of scientific equipment). He is a participant at the Lagos Business School Sustainable Development Symposium 2017 with the theme – ‘Water for Sustainable Development“, The Society for Veterinary Epidemiology, Preventive Medicine’s the use of metagenomics for AMR surveillance and the DTU’s whole genome sequencing of bacterial genome-tools and applications. His current research is in screening water samples for antibiotic resistance genes and other eDNA. He is currently the Acting HoD of the Department of Biochemistry as well as the Deputy Director of the African Centre for Excellence in Water and Environmental Research (ACEWATER). He is also part of the Water Ecosystem Monitoring and Biotreatment research team unit (WEMBU) in the Centre.
