The Environment and Water Resources Regulation Unit (EWRRU) of ACEWATER is committed to the actualisation of an efficient legal framework (s) for water supply security and sanitation in Africa. There is no gainsaying that water supply security and, sanitation is indispensable to human existence and survival. Regardless, Africa as a continent is bedevilled with the problem of lack of access to a clean and secure water supply. The United Nations Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development sets an ambitious target of achieving a one hundred per cent access to reliable and quality water supply globally, including in Africa. Agenda 2030 recognises that efficient laws and policies must be enacted to underpin the attainment of ambitious targets. Regrettably, still lacking are the efficient laws and policies that will drive the attainment of universal access to reliable and quality water supply for all in Africa. Also lacking is the knowledge of the usefulness of the law in efficiently driving the attainment of universal access to quality and reliable water supply in Africa. It is in this context that the EWRRU has its foremost goal-
Objective 1: the actualisation of robust and efficient regulations for water supply security and sanitation in Africa. A core attribute of the Unit is to use doctrinal research methodology and other academic tools to identify the defects in existing regional and national laws in the context of achieving a hundred per cent access to reliable and quality water supply in Africa. It is based on the later that the Unit would use diverse research and social tools to recommend and facilitate the enactment of appropriate laws and policies for achieving the stated objective.
Objective 2: Another primary mandate of EWRRU is to work with other ACEWATER Units for the birthing of the needed human capacity for achieving the identified goals.
